NEW PROJECT: Bonk & Co

Monday, November 9th, 2009 by Arcas Computing

We have started work on a brand-new site for the stoves provider Bonk & Co .

The site will be a fairly extensive pamphlet-style website which will feature a much more modern, CSS-based design and will list all the products and services that they provide.  The site will be based upon Joomla 1.5 to allow the client to quickly and easily update the content and add new pages as and when they please.

We are currently in the middle of the initial design process and will soon be starting work on the page build.

NEW PROJECT: Planet HPC

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009 by Arcas Computing

We have been chosen by the EPCC, Edinburgh University’s Supercomputer Group, to design, build and develop a new website for the PlanetHPC project which will launch in November.

The site will feature publicly-accessible content as well as restricted-access content which will only be made available to registered members, who will be vetted by the PlanetHPC staff before having their accounts approved and access granted.  The site will feature forums and download pages and will be based on Joomla 1.5.

The timescale is fairly short on this project so we are looking towards a mid-to-late November launch, based upon the client’s ability to supply us with the neccessary content.  More news on this project will be posted to this blog as it comes along.

NEW PROJECT: Heller’s Kitchen

Thursday, October 15th, 2009 by Arcas Computing

We were recently approached by the owners of the wonderfully-named Heller’s Kitchen, a restaurant and eatery located in the south side of Edinburgh, just along the road from us.

They wanted a website for their business which would give information on them, their menus and their services and they chose Arcas to deliver this for them.  We created a temporary holding page for them and are now in the process of coming up with a design for them from which we will build an updateable, Joomla 1.5-based website with lots of goodness on it!

Stay posted for more information on the development of the website and for launch details once it is live.

NEW PROJECT: Pet Physio Plus

Friday, July 10th, 2009 by Arcas Computing

Arcas have been asked by a new startup company called Pet Physio Plus to provide them with a Joomla-based website for their business.

Pet Physio Plus offer physiotherapy services for horses and dogs either privately or through referral from a vet and want to have a website which properly reflects the medical nature of the business but also ensures that it looks friendly and approachable.  They want to be able to update the site themselves so we will be using the Joomla 1.5 content management system to do so.

Work is already underway on the site designs and we are aiming to launch the site within the next few weeks so check back soon for more info.

NEW PROJECT: Have Your Cake And Eat It!

Friday, June 26th, 2009 by Arcas Computing

We have been asked by a local business, Have Your Cake & Eat It, to provide them with a new website for them.

HYC&EI are a bespoke cake creation business who are just along the road from us and are well-known for creating some wonderful and unique cakes made to client’s exact specifications (no picking from a catalogue here!).  They want a site that will properly reflect their business and show off some of the cakes which they have worked on as well as allow new customers to get in touch with them.

Stay tuned for more information on this project!

NEW PROJECT: Property Website

We have been commisioned by a new property rental company in Edinburgh to create for them a self-updateable website to allow them to list their properties and let people contact them.

The site will be built using Joomla 1.5 and the Hot Properties plugin.

More information to follow!

NEW PROJECT: Scottish Arts Club

Sunday, January 25th, 2009 by Arcas Computing

Arcas have been commissioned by the Scottish Arts Club to completely revamp their existing website using Joomla 1.5.

The site will include information about the club and the services/facilities that it offers.  It will also allow members to book those facilities online using a forms plugin and will control access to the various page based upon their membership status.

NEW PROJECT: Fastglass Direct

Monday, January 12th, 2009 by Arcas Computing

Arcas has been commissioned to create a new ecommerce site for Donside Heating Supplies’ FASTGLASS Replacement Stove Glass service.

The site will be built using Joomla 1.5 alongside the Virtuemart ecommerce plugin and will allow customers to view the various makes and models of replacement glass they offer.  In addition to most of the standard shopping functions, we will also be doing some custom development including:

  • Referral tracking: the clients wants to be able to know where people buying products on their site have come from so we will modify the site to record the original referring URL (if there is one) and save this whenever they place an order.
  • Custom calculator: the clients to be able to offer customers the ability to enter custom sizes of the glass they need and have the site calculate the total cost on their behalf.

NEW PROJECT: Universal Procurement

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008 by Arcas Computing

We have just received a commission from an Edinburgh-based startup company called Universal Procurement, located in the heart of the city centre, to construct a new website  for them.

The site will be a Joomla-based brochure site to begin with, featuring basic information on the business, its core services and its staff and since it is based upon the Joomla system, it will of course all be user-updateable!

We will begin work on the design stage before the end of this week so look out for more information over the coming weeks, with a pre-Xmas launch on the cards.

Are you interested in being able to update your own site or would you like a site built that you can quickly and easily maintain yourself?  Then why not contact us about getting a Joomla-based site yourself?

NEW PROJECT: ASME.org.uk

Thursday, November 6th, 2008 by

Arcas Computing had just won the contract for the redesign (and rebuild) of the website for the Association for the Study of Medical Education which will be basing up the Joomla open-source CMS.

The site is going to be fairly extensive (with several hundred pages of information) and will feature information about the organisation, provide facilities to join and renew memberships as well as to order their various publications and reserve slots at the conferences and courses that they provide.  It will be neccessary to make use of Joomla plugins to index their PDFs as well as to create custom forms which will handle the eccomerce side of things in conjunction with a third-party payment provider such as World Pay.

Development is expected to take several months including testing and debugging with an early 2009 launch expected.
