For those of you who have not come across Homestays before, they are rooms or properties which are temporarily let out to students and travellers. Our client has long been involved in the industry but felt that it could benefit from a UK-centric site for homestays.
The client came to us with very specific needs which we felt could not be easily achieve using Joomla and its varied extensions and so we decided to build the site from scratch using ASP.net. This meant that we could achieve specific functionality including :
- User registration/membership
- Visitors can register for free and add messages to the site as well as browse homestays
- Users can add “Favourites” to their account
- Any user can add a homestay for listing on the site for FREE
- However in order for either a homestay host or guest to get in touch with one another one of them has to have a paid account
- Automated account upgrades using Paypal payment system - so accounts are only upgraded if the payment has been successful
We worked the client for many months in order to best realise the site she wanted and so several months and over 8000 lines of hand-scripted code later the site is launched! You can check out the site now at www.homestaysuk.com.
