We apologise for the lack of blogging over the last few months but fortunately its for the very good reason that we have been so busy and so, like the carpenter whose house is never finished, we’ve been so hard at work building everyone else’s site that we’ve lacked the time to tend to our own!

Fear not, however, as we have a brand-new and improve site in the works and over the coming weeks we’ll be posting more about the sites we’ve worked on over the last few months.

We are please to announce the launch of TallTree.org.uk, a site we have been working on for a few months with the organisation’s founder John Bull.

John is a specialist in high performance coaching and has worked with such clients as The All Blacks, the BBC, Orange, Balfour Beatty and the British Olympic Association.

He wanted his site to be unique and individual whilst still being easy to navigate and so we worked with John and designer Helen McFeely from Hels Design to come up with something which met the criteria which John had set.

The site is based on 1.7 which has several new features added to it which make it superior to 1.5 and we made use of a number of these, mainly the ability to create “sub-templates” so that different pages could be laid out in different ways.  This gives us, as developers, much more flexibility in terms of the layouts of the pages whilst still making it easy for the client to update.

You can view the site at http://www.talltree.org.uk now!

We are pleased as punch to announce that we have just launched the brand new site for Pix in the Stix!

Pix in the Stix is a community cinema project which aims to bring big screen entertainment to rural areas in East Lothian and the surrounding areas.  We were approached by one of their organisers, Julia, for whom we’d previously built a site for her acupuncture business.

Featuring image sliders, popup YouTube clips and more we think it’s pretty damned snazzy :)

Since this was a community project and one which we were happy to support we gladly donated the site design and build to the project for free and will continue to support it in the future.

Check it out now at http://www.pixinthestix.org.uk/ for more information!

We were pleased to help Lesley over at SXP Designs who came to us needing some help with a website which she was re-branding.

She’d previously had a website under another name but had gone through a rebranding process, however they had lost touch with their original developer and so engaged us to recode the site in the neccessary places in order to rebrand the site and also change all of the payment process details on their site.

Has your existing web developer let you down?  Are you stuck and in need of a quick fix?  Then why not get in touch with us and see if we can help you?

We’ve just launched another new site, this time for Insight Insurance, a local insurance consultancy business.

We were contacted by the company who had attempted to create their own website using a free website creation service, however they quickly found (as people often do!) that what they were able to produce was nowhere near the quality they needed.  They also need the site up in a hurry due to an upcoming event and so we were able to design and build the site from start to finish within one working week.

Because of the timescales and available budget we built the site as a simple, static HTML site, however the option is there for the site to be moved across into to enable the client to take control of their site in the future.

If you have an existing static HTML site which you are not currently able to update then why not contact us about how we could help you by converting it to for you?

We are proud to announce the launch of our first live 1.7 site – http://www.simonbailliegallery.co.uk!

After the release of 1.6 in January of this year we resisted developing any live sites beacuse, at the time, we didn’t feel it was quite stable enough plus many of the extensions for it which we consider vital for a good site hadn’t been converted to their 1.6 versions yet.  However with the release of 1.7, a slight evolution of 1.6, together with the continued release of new extensions, we felt the time was right.

The client, Simon Baillie, runs a gallery in Scotland and wanted a site up quickly after having trouble building one using one of the free DIY solutions which seem to be everywhere now.  We designed and built the site and had it launched within one week of Simon first coming to us.  It was great to start getting our teeth into the very latest version of and we are planning on using this version as standard now, unless the client requires certain extensions which just aren’t available for 1.7 yet.

Do you need a site, fast?  Then why not contact us and find out how we can help you too?

We have just launched the new website for APOS-EU, a project from Edinburgh University’s EPCC (supercomputing) group, whom we previously developed the Planet HPC website for.

The group came to us after being impressed by the site which we developed for Planet HPC and wanted something similar – based on 1.5 of course and featuring an image slideshow plus an alternative menu for the Russian arm of the project.  Since the project is a collaboration between EU and Russian groups APOS wanted to have a set of pages featuring some information in Russian, however they didn’t want to go the full route of a total site translation (using something like Joom!Fish).

Instead we set up a simple system whereby there were two main menus and a Section/Category for the Russian content, then we used the Advanced Module Manager extension to enable us to select which menu was displayed based on the criteria of the section the user was currently browsing.  This means that they can easily define a completely unique set of pages for the Russian part of the site as well as maintaining complete control over the translated text.

You can view their site now at http://aposeu.epcc.ed.ac.uk/.

The owners of the website for Cladich Fold had an existing website however it is was difficult, if not impossible for them to update so they came to us to get us to perform a conversion for the site.

They had heard how great a product the CMS was and wanted to work with a more local company who could guide and assist them in terms of updating their site and also performing future developments.

We therefore recreated their site template (stripping out the use of tables from the previous design and rebuilding it using CSS to make it more accessible) and converted it to a template then imported all existing content.  We also installed the wonderful Joomgallery component for the site instead of the difficult-to-maintain manual gallery system which they previously had.  Now all they need to do to add more images is browse and upload and the site takes care of the rest including thumbnailing and popups!

Check out their new site at http://www.cladich-argyll.co.uk!

Do you have an existing site which you find difficult to update or are maybe not able to update at all?  Then why not contact us for information on how we can convert you to and the benefits which the system might bring you?

Luxon Risk SystemsAnother day, another small business site!

Luxon Risk Systems is a new startup business specialising in all forms of risk management including operational risk, technology risk, enterprise risk, regulatory risk and more.

We were approached by the business’ Managing Director and Founder, Charles Luxon, who had started work on a website using a free web builder tool but who wanted something more professional to properly reflect the nature of his business.  Charles wanted something clean and fresh looking with a couple of points of interest to prevent the pages from looking too dull.
